Laundry is the chore that never quite ends. A few small changes can make it a little softer on your clothes, your skin and the cupboard under the sink.
Measure, do not guess
Using more detergent rarely gets clothes cleaner. Extra soap can stay in the fabric and leave towels feeling stiff. One pump of Laundry Detergent, Unscented is enough for a normal load, and two is plenty for a large or very dirty one.
Wash cooler when you can
Everyday loads of T-shirts, sheets and towels usually come clean at 30 to 40 degrees. Save hot washes for heavily soiled items, and check the care label first.
Skip the dryer sheet
If you tumble dry, a handful of wool dryer balls tumble between fabrics and help separate them as they dry. Use three for a small load and six for a large one. They can be reused for hundreds of cycles, so there is nothing to throw away afterwards.
Let the sun help
On a dry day, a washing line is still the gentlest dryer there is. Hang shirts by the hem and fold towels over the line rather than pegging the corners, so they keep their shape.
Choose your scent, or none
Our detergent comes unscented or in Green Hinoki. If anyone at home has sensitive skin, start with the unscented formula and see how you get on.
This article is general information about household cleaning. Always follow the directions on the label, keep cleaning products out of reach of children and pets, and spot-test on delicate surfaces first.
